How We Build

Craftsmanship Behind Every Wooton Desk

Every Wooton Desk reproduction by Glenn Furniture is handcrafted in Jepara, Indonesia, the global center of fine woodworking.
Here, generations of artisans work with precision and pride, using both traditional techniques and modern technology to produce furniture worthy of the Wooton name.

1. Traditional Craftsmanship Meets Modern Precision

Each desk begins with detailed CAD drawings based on original Wooton blueprints.
Our draftsmen convert these historical proportions into exact production templates, ensuring perfect symmetry and alignment.

Once approved, the design moves to the workshop, where skilled woodcarvers and cabinetmakers handcraft every part — from the structural frame to the smallest dovetail drawer.

“Every cut, joint, and carving is guided by human hands — the way furniture was made when craftsmanship mattered most.”

2. Materials and Finishes

We use only solid kiln-dried hardwoods sourced responsibly from Indonesian suppliers:

  • Mahogany – dense, elegant, and historically accurate for most Wooton reproductions
  • Teak – durable, richly grained, and naturally resistant to moisture and pests

Accents and veneers can include burl walnut, ebony, or rosewood, depending on the model and customer preference.

Each piece is sanded, sealed, and finished by hand — layer by layer — using traditional stain and lacquer methods. The result is a deep, lasting luster that ages beautifully.

3. Hand-Carved Details

Jepara is renowned for its fine woodcarving — a tradition stretching back centuries.
Our artisans recreate the ornate motifs found on Superior Grade Wooton Desks, including:

  • Griffin-winged galleries
  • Fluted columns and finials
  • Decorative moldings and panels

No machine can match the subtle imperfections and textures that make hand-carved furniture alive and unique.

4. Joinery and Construction

Every Glenn Furniture desk is built to last generations:

  • Mortise-and-tenon joints for structural integrity
  • Dovetail drawers for smooth, durable operation
  • Solid brass hardware for authenticity and strength
  • Hand-tooled leather writing surfaces, available in black or green

We do not use MDF or plywood in the structural body — only solid wood frames and veneered panels for beauty and strength.

5. Made-to-Order Craftsmanship

Each Wooton Desk reproduction is produced only after confirmation, allowing complete control over material selection, finish, and detailing.
During production, clients receive regular photo updates, ensuring transparency and satisfaction at every stage.

6. Finishing Touches

After assembly, each desk undergoes:

  • Final inspection and detailing
  • Careful packing for export (foam, carton, and optional plywood crating for LCL shipments)
  • Documentation for customs and shipping

Once complete, the desk leaves Jepara — a modern heirloom, ready for its new home anywhere in the world.
